This is the last operating double-decker theatre in the world, actually with
two separate theaters. This was build in 1913 and designated as national
historic site in 1982. Now this owned and operated by the Ontario Heritage Trust.
Their performances include comedies, musicals, concerts, operas, dramas.
This theater also participate the Toronto International Film Festival.
The Elgin theatre is at down stairs with 1500 seats. Upstairs Winter Garden theater
has 1000 seats. This has a nature theme, with hand painted walls.
Guided tours are available with a small charge. There tours take
around one and half hours and cover the both the theaters, lobbies, original dressing
rooms and backstage exhibit.
Elgin & Winter Garden Theatre is located in downtown Toronto close to many
tourist attraction.
